Joko Widodo (born 21 June 1961), also called Jokowi, is the 7th and current Leader of Indonesia, in office since 2014. Recently he was Mayor of Surakarta from 2005 to 2012 and Governor of Jakarta from 2012 to 2014. He's the first Indonesian leader without a high-ranking politics or military background.[1]Jokowi was nominated by his party, the Indonesian Democratic Get together of Have difficulties (PDI-P), to perform in the 2012 Jakarta gubernatorial election with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (often known as Ahok)[2] as his going mate.[3] Jokowi was elected as Governor of Jakarta on 20 September 2012 after another circular runoff election where he defeated the incumbent governor Fauzi Bowo.[4]His nomination as PDI-P candidate for the 2014 presidential election was announced on 14 March 2014.[5] The presidential election happened on 9 July 2014. He was officially declared as the success of the election by the overall Elections Fee (Komisi Pemilihan Umum or KPU), being successful more than 53% of the vote over his opposition, Prabowo Subianto, who disputed the results and withdrew from the competition before the count was completed.[6]Joko Widodo is of Javanese descent. Before changing his name (changes of name aren't unconventional in Java), Jokowi was called Mulyono.[7] His father came from Karanganyar, his grandparents came from a community in Boyolali.[8] His education started in State Main University 111, Tirtoyoso, known for being a institution for the less wealthy residents.[9] At the age of twelve, he began employed in his father's furniture workshop.[10][11] The evictions he experienced 3 x in his child years affected his thought process and his management down the road as the mayor of Surakarta (Solo) as he organised casing in the town.[12]After primary institution, he extended his studies in SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta (middle school).[13] He had wanted to continue his education in SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta (senior high school), but he failed the access exam and went to SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta instead.[14]Joko Widodo managed to graduate from Faculty of Forestry at Gadjah Mada College or university, Yogyakarta in 1985 to review and research about the utilization of plywood.Jokowi started out his tenure at a state-owned enterprise company called PT Kertas Kraft Aceh, but gone home not long after due to his disinterest. Then began doing work for his grandfather's furniture manufacturing plant, before building his own company called Rakabu, whose namesake is the name of his first child.[15]
