Indonesian President Joko Widodo shakes hands with Prime Minister Joko Widodo (blessed 21 June 1961), also called Jokowi, is the seventh and current President of Indonesia, in office since 2014. Previously he was Mayor of Surakarta from 2005 to 2012 and Governor of Jakarta from 2012 to 2014. He is the first Indonesian chief executive with out a high-ranking politics or military backdrop.[1]Jokowi was nominated by his get together, the Indonesian Democratic Get together of Struggle (PDI-P), to perform in the 2012 Jakarta gubernatorial election with Basuki Tjahaja Purnama (generally known as Ahok)[2] as his working mate.[3] Jokowi was elected as Governor of Jakarta on 20 September 2012 after another circular runoff election where he defeated the incumbent governor Fauzi Bowo.[4]His nomination as PDI-P prospect for the 2014 presidential election was announced on 14 March 2014.[5] The presidential election happened on 9 July 2014. After some controversy about the result of the election, Jokowi was known as as president-elect on 22 July. He was formally announced as the champion of the election by the General Elections Percentage (Komisi Pemilihan Umum or KPU), being successful more than 53% of the vote over his challenger, Prabowo Subianto, who disputed the results and withdrew from the competition before the matter was completed.[6]Joko Widodo is of Javanese descent. Before changing his name (changes of name are not unconventional in Java), Jokowi was called Mulyono.[7] His dad originated from Karanganyar, his grandparents originated from a community in Boyolali.[8] His education began in State Principal University 111, Tirtoyoso, known for being a school for the less prosperous residents.[9] At age twelve, he started employed in his father's furniture workshop.[10][11] The evictions he experienced three times in his childhood affected his thought process and his management later on as the mayor of Surakarta (Solo) as he organised casing in the city.[12]JokoWidodoAfter primary college, he persisted his studies in SMP Negeri 1 Surakarta (middle college).[13] He had wanted to continue his education in SMA Negeri 1 Surakarta (senior high school), but he failed the access exam and visited SMA Negeri 6 Surakarta instead.[14]Joko Widodo managed to graduate from Faculty of Forestry at Gadjah Mada College or university, Yogyakarta in 1985 to study and research about the use of plywood.Indonesian President Joko Widodo Visits China  Getty ImagesJokowi started his tenure at a state-owned enterprise company called PT Kertas Kraft Aceh, but proceeded to go home not long after anticipated to his disinterest. Then began doing work for his grandfather's furniture stock, before creating his own company called Rakabu, whose namesake is the name of his first child.[15]
